Getting ready for a learner licence is about more than sitting a test. Road Ready can help a participant organise information, understand transport options and build confidence with the parts of driving that happen before anyone gets behind the wheel.
Things to understand first
Rules and requirements depend on the person’s age, licence type and location. Use the current Queensland Government road rules and licensing information as the source of truth. We can help a participant find, read and organise that information, then note questions to ask the relevant licensing authority.
- Road signs, road markings and common road rules.
- Journey planning, maps, directions, toll roads and parking.
- Fuel, registration, insurance, roadside assistance and basic trip budgeting.
- What to look for when comparing a first car, including running costs and safety information.
Road Ready is non-instructional
Driven Support does not currently provide paid pre-licence driving lessons or teach a participant to operate a vehicle. Road Ready can support study, planning, transport confidence and informed decision-making, but it is not a substitute for an appropriately qualified driving instructor or the official licensing process.
A practical study plan
Break the official material into short topics. A participant might start with signs, make a list of unfamiliar words, use practice questions from an official source and talk through real routes as a passenger. Keep the pace manageable and check understanding rather than treating a test result as the only measure of progress.
Planning for future independence
A licence may be one part of a person’s transport goals, but it is not the only option. Public transport, community transport, lifts, walking and other arrangements may also support independence. Any future support plan should be based on the participant’s goals, needs, safety and choices.
